We try to make our milk as natural as possible. This is why we have decided to sell
unhomogenised
milk. Homogenisation breaks up the fat particles in the cream so that
they are dispersed throughout the milk. Doing this makes the milk stay
fresher for longer but it means the fat is absorbed much more easily
into the body and hence isn't as good for you. With Laceys' milk you
will notice that the cream floats to the top just like it used to.
All you have to do is
give it a shake! You can also skim off the cream to use for whatever you like.
Guernsey milk is recognised for its additional health benefits
with more Beta Carotene, Omega 3 and Beta Casein A2 than any other type
of milk. For information on the health benefits of these go to the
Guernsey milk website and this special report by
Channel 5.
These range from helping prevent cancer to improving the symptoms of
autism. Whole Guernsey milk does have more fat content than 'ordinary'
milk but fat content in semi-skimmed is standard for any milk (and skimmed is of course nearly fat free). Whichever you choose you
still get the extra goodness and taste of Guernsey milk. You might find
you can switch to a lower fat milk and still enjoy it because of the greater flavour of our milk.
Lastly we'd like to thank you for
your support. It isn't easy these days to stay in the farming business,
particularly for a small family farm. The prices the supermarkets pay
their suppliers has been falling as a proportion of total price for a
long time now. Selling our own milk is one way of trying to avoid being
forced out of something we love. In the summer of 2008 the Bishop of
Buckingham visited our farm and summed this all up very well, please
have a look at
Bishop Alan's Blog.
